Another Newcastle Newbie

Post by Mac » Sat 02 Jul, 2016 6:44 pm

After finally getting a garage I've been able to get the Elise I've been hankering after for years, so hello!

And to pile in with a question, does anyone have any recommendations for service and MOT garages? Stoneacre in Durham seem to be the closest?

Cheers,
Mac

Welcome Mac.

I've mostly had mine mot'd at Swingbridge garage just down by the Baltic in Gateshead. Nothing flash, but a cheap MOT and they know what they are doing, One of the owners was a tvr man but don't hold that against him as he has a replica cobra at the mo.

Re servicing its all subjective and you will get all manner of comments and thoughts from owners. Personally mine is now over 10 years old and does about 2-3k miles per year so a bi-annual service by Dan Jude @ SPS, which is Hexham way, with checks/oil changes and general tinkering type stuff myself keeps things nicely.

Hexham horseless carriages can still service cars.
Formula 1 has just closed down not sure where or if the techs there will go and do their own thing
Other places and main dealers which are further afield, like York, Edinburgh or Carlisle.

After that you are pretty much down to recommendation and chance unless you want to go main dealer... Stoneacre, I haven't a clue to be honest, I haven't heard of anyone having a car done there yet.

Hello and welcome

Anywhere can do the MOT, as for servicing you'll find that everyone has an opinion or a story as to who they use and why but its a Rover K series engine and can be serviced by any competent mechanic.
If you want the stamp in the book you'll have to go to Carlisle, Durham, Edinburgh or Leeds Dealers and Service centres.
